According to the FBR, there are over 5 lakhs individuals who are eligible to file income tax returns but are not on the Active Taxpayer List. So, there is a directive from FBR, issued through an Income Tax General Order (ITGO) under section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
In order to ensure fast implementation, FBR has directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) together with cellular operators in the country to immediately enforce this order and start blocking 5000 sims on a daily basis.
The FBRβs directive to block SIMs of non-filers is an important step in ensuring tax compliance. Please make sure you file your tax returns as instructed by FBR.
How to Unblock Your SIM Card?
If your SIM card has been blocked, you can unblock it by filing your Income Tax Return for the year 2023.
The SIM card will remain blocked until it is restored by either the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) or the Commissioner of Inland Revenue with jurisdiction over your case.
After you have filed your tax returns, the relevant authority will make a decision regarding the restoration of your SIM card.
